Draycote 23/04/23

Disappointing day for me at Draycote with nothing to show for 6 hours of effort. View in the shop was North shore but try N buoy before the sailors got out (misheard that as M which basically summed up the day) Started off DI3 and a mini cats whisker, drifted over M and nothing happening but there was the odd fish showing so changed to floater and a couple of buzzers to no avail  Belatedly moved to N buoy and had a drift with the DI3 and a booby snake - I am determined to get a fish on one of these sometime this season but again nothing. Decided to g back to my original plan prior to arriving which was Biggin Bay / Toft with Buzzers/Bung Wind direction pushing away from the bank at Biggin andalso a lot of bank anglers so fished further out than I had hoped , drifted down without a touch but went round again to try the Bung with a similar result Couple of drifts round toft with various lines/flies (10ft fast tip, DI5 sweep/floater+bung) all to no avail. Back to Biggin Bay for ...

Not this week

Slightly disappointing that life has got in the way of fishing this week and it is a shame that sportfish is not open on Sundays as I could have managed a couple of hours there today but could not carve out enough time to get to the midlands reservoirs for any reasonable amount of time - 4 hour round trip so anything less than 1/2 a day I really cannot justify Need to get myself back into fly tieing as the commercially available flies are going to get expensive and also do not come in all of the sizes I would like, as with most things trout fishing there are a huge number of different vices at a huge range of price points, will need to have a base rather than a clamp I think which will rule out the direct replacement for my previous (40 years ago) vice which would I think be the Veniard No 12 super standard and given my experience with the Wychwood cassette reels will need to have a proper think about what price is sensible for me to pay.

Maybe not so Bad

Just read the report for last week and it would seem that the vast majority of the fish caught on the Sunday were from the Leicester bank with the Rutland bank (where I was mainly due to not wanting to do battle with the crowds) did not fish at all with even the competitors who started off on the Rutland bank moving to the Leicester bank (Sams Dyke) in order to catch fish My two then not a disgrace but still 'must do better'

Eyebrook 09/04/23

Hurrah, the day is finally here, up early and left the house at 06:00 clear run and got to Eyebrook at 07:46 so good start to the day. The Greys pairs Eyebrook heat is today so there will be at least anothe 22 boats out on the water - hopefully will be spresd out and I can find a few pleasant places to fish Quick chat in the lodge reveals fish all aroung Sams Dyke and the Point and also Willows down to Watsons cabin (which I misheard as Robbos cabin) buzzers is the advice either washing line or straight Started off main basin with snake as planned, lodge had mentioned there were fish there but spent 20 minutes with no sighting so decided to head down to mucky bay thnking I could always come back to Sams Dyke - Big Mistake Buzzers on a 6 foot slow tip resulted in precisely nothing so decided to head over to Robbos cabin - this coincided with the start of the competition and 22 boats flying out of the mooring - about 12 of them headed for Sams Dyke and most of the rest down to the w...

Excitement - Eyebrook tomorrow

Woohoo, first trip of the season to eyebrook tomorrow, looking forwards to it immensley although it will be a bit crowded as there are 22 other boats out fishing the Scierra pairs heat (didn't know that when I planned this) Plan is to start drifting through the main basin using DI5 Sweep and a booby snake and if that is not successful then switch to Humungous After about 10 if no interest then switch to a 6ft slow tip with 2 buzzers and drift around hawthorns, sams dyke etc After that open season and see how am feeling but will definately be trying the bung at some stage in the day Heres hoping for an enjoyable day

Haywards Farm Again

Having had a pleasant morning at Haywards farm a couple of weeks ago and being unable to spare the time toget to one of the midlands reservoirs I decided to have another couple of hours today in the hope of gaining a bit more confidence in a couple of different methods. Quick chat in the shop revealed it was mainly buzzers on a floater that was catching so set up the Onki with floater and 2 buzzers and the stillmaniac with a slo mo and apps worm Went back to the corner that produced success last time and started with the slo mo, timeing of the casting was slightly out to start with so ended up in a few tangles which was somewhat frustrating but did eventually manage to sort that out. Managed to catch the tree behind which started off being slightly annoying but did result in me finding the Oki Dokie I lost last week so a result in the end. After 1/2 an hour precisely no interest in the apps worm so swapped rods to the buzzers, some fish moving near the top of the water but not rem...
